What is homeopathy?
Homeopathy is a natural form of medicine that utilizes minute doses of carefully selected ingredients made from plants, mineral sources and many other natural substances, to enhance the body's natural healing processes. It was founded in Germany by Dr. Samuel Hahnemann over two hundred years ago. Using the principle that “like can be cured with like”, homeopathy has taken a wide range of natural substances and carefully recorded the symptoms these substances cause in healthy people. Matching these substances as closely as possible, to the individual and the particular symptoms that they are experiencing encourages their own healing energy to return them to health.
Homeopathic remedies are gentle, non-toxic, free from side effects, very different in nature from the harsh drugs and treatments of allopathic (conventional) medicine. This makes homeopathy particularly suited to newborn babies and children.
Children respond very quickly to homeopathy. Homeopathic treatment being based on the ‘Constitutional Approach’ treats the disease at the root level, addressing deep -seated problems, such as inherited conditions, vaccine damage, and environmental and emotional stresses. It stimulates the vital energy (or qi in CM language) to heal and prevent recurrent illnesses.
Homeopathy can treat a wide range of paediatric conditions. The list is too long to name all of them therefore I will mention only the most commonly treated ailments.
- Infections: cough & cold, sore throats, ear infections, glue ear, conjunctivitis, measles, chickenpox, mumps;
- Digestive conditions: stomach ache, food intolerances, poor or excessive appetite, diarrhoea and constipation, etc.;
- Allergies: skin and food allergies, insect bites reactions, asthma. hay fever, urticaria, etc.
- Sleeping problems: irregular patterns, nightmares, sleep-walking, etc.;
- Emotional disorders: hyper activeness, behavioural problems, poor concentration, ADD (attention deficit disorder), restlessness, anxiety, fears, inferiority complex timidity, lack of confidence, clinginess and whininess, etc.
- Skin diseases: nappy-rashes, eczema, urticaria, acne, etc.;
- Growth related problems and bed-wetting.
It is very useful to keep a few first-aid remedies in the house to help with various common problems, such as bumps and bruises (Arnica), for finger injuries, trapped in a drawer (Hypericum), diaper rashes (Calendula ointment), teething (Chamomilla). Colds and fevers (Aconite, Ferrum Phos. And Belladonna)
